City Guide: Puerto Vallarta
We took a “grown-up Spring Break” trip to Puerto Vallarta, and wow, I really needed that vacation with my girls. It seriously rejuvenated me! I came back with a new love for Puerto Vallarta and am excited to tell you all about it!
Eat: Ceviche! This seaside town has amazing ceviche and I never passed up the opportunity to try every type! The ceviche at Viejo Vallarta is to die for. Located on the Malecon, after a long day of shopping it’s the perfect place to grab a skinny margarita and ceviche.
Ocean Grill Vallarta-A must! (Make a reservation before you go.) Take the bus from PV to the small fishing village Boca (or a cab), and Ocean Grill will take you in it’s own water taxi to the restaurant, gratis. Get the fish of the day, sit back and enjoy the amazing views.
Stay: Secrets Resort Vallarta Bay. We stayed here, and I don’t think I’ll ever stay anywhere else in Puerto Vallarta (besides renting an apartment, see below). They blew me away with their impeccable service, amenities, cuisine (8 different restaurants and all amazing), and top-shelf liquor. You want 2 plates of enchiladas with green sauce, chiliquiles, flan, and 3 glasses of champagne at 2am-delivered to your room? One phone call and 15 minutes later, you are tearing through those enchiladas..
Rent an apartment- If I was to go with a very large group I’d consider renting a villa or apartment. There are plenty of rentals just blocks away from the beach in downtown Puerto Vallarta, and very affordable, usually cheaper than staying at a hotel. I’m itching to stay at ICON Vallarta next time.
Play: Malecon. The boardwalk runs along downtown Puerto Vallarta’s central beach. Take your time and stroll down this street taking in the vendors, shops, bars (hello free tequila tasting), and oceanviews.
La Bodeguita del Medio. Cuban bar with windows opening to the beach. Come after 3pm to hear an amazing live band play songs that make you want to just get up and dance! After 3pm the mojitos are 2 for the price of 1, so that’s always nice
Mandala & Sky Mandala: We visited almost every club along the Malecon and these two were our favorite. I loved how Mandala was completely open facing the beach, so it never got too hot or sweaty. Sky Mandala is best if you really want to GET DOWN, some serious dancers up there. It’s called Sky because it’s on the rooftop of Mandala, and again has nice views of the Malecon and beach, while being completely open so you can feel the ocean breeze.
Until next time Puerto Vallarta!
