Wine Tasting: A Marathon, Not a Sprint

Thursday, August 15th, 2013 | City Guide

Wine tasting is totally a sport, right? It requires good health and fitness to climb up the stairs or walk up the hill to each winery, then you have to curl your arm every time you take a sip. You get a lot of reps when they do those heavy college pours!

Ok so maybe my bid to get wine tasting into the Olympics has a long way to go; thankfully, I can do lots of training and “research” in nearby Temecula!

Ready for a day of tasting!

It may not be as flashy or well known as Napa or the South of France, but Temecula Valley is a rich oasis of many family run wineries that make for the perfect day or weekend trip from San Diego or LA.

Stiletto Escape took a few very special clients out for a day of exploring the valley. We ate, drank, laughed, drank and ate even more. Here are a few of our favorite places:

Start the day at Falkner for breathtaking views at lunch.

Definitely order the mac & cheese for the table, and the ahi salad is phenomenal!

Also on your list should be Wiens Family Cellars.

Pro tip: Eat the oyster crackers! Not only do they give you a little something extra to soak up some of the wine, but they are a great palette cleanser. Oh, and definitely try to go home with a bottle of their signature Orange champagne!

And a great way to end the day is at Miramonte!
Order a pitcher of Sangria and a cheese board to share. Relax on the patio, enjoy the views and music while you reflect on your glorious day!

Beautiful day for wine tasting with lovely ladies!
