What’s Hot this Weekend: July 4th

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 | What's Hot this Weekend

There is nothing like being out on a warm night with great food, cool beverages, and a fireworks show. Get out and enjoy summer this 3-day weekend with our guide to fireworks, fashion, and food.

Boston Fireworks Show

What is the 4th without a good fireworks show? Here are some of the top fireworks shows in the country.

Boston: With over 500,000 attendees, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is a must see fireworks show. Prior to the show, there will be a concert, with The Beach Boys as headliners.

Chicago: Hit up the Windy City this weekend and enjoy fireworks from Navy Pier. Or take a boat cruise on Lake Michigan and enjoy the fireworks while dining.

San Francisco: San Francisco’s yearly show can be viewed all along the waterfront, and is the perfect fireworks show if you are looking to escape the heat and enjoy a nice crisp night.

What to wear is all in the accessories, here are some to make your look more patriotic.

American Apparel-Floppy Summer Hat

Love this hat from American Apparel. My fav is the red, but they have blue and white as well. This is a great way to beat the heat in style.

Remember, it may be sweltering all day, but it can get quite chilly by the time that fireworks show starts. I always like to have something lightweight to throw on. Old Navy has a wide assortment of hoodies, cardigans, and scarfs, so you are sure to find the perfect red, white, or blue coverup to keep you warm into the night.

Do not forget to wear your sunglasses! If you are on the lookout for a new pair, a nice pair of Raybans are always hip. If your style is more classic, go Audrey Hepburn with Chanel.

Host a BBQ at home with girlfriends this weekend! Here are some recos to make hosting a little less burdensome and make you look like a superstar :)

Watermelon Breeze

With the weather warming, your guests will need some refreshing beverage choices. A Watermelon Breeze is sure to be a hit. Combine watermelon, coconut water, ice and mint, for a virgin option in a blender. To create an adult version, add Vodka. Another option is a Blackberry and Meyer Lemon Gin and Tonic. Both drinks are low calorie and made with real fruit.

Barbecue Sauce

You cannot host a BBQ without using an amazing BBQ sauce on the items you grill. If you love a sweet sauce, a Bourbon BBQ Sauce made with brown sugar, honey, and molasses, here is a great recipe. For a spicy option, try this great dry rub by award winning Chef Bradley Ogden.

Apps are a must at any house party. I love having a variety of dips available for guests to snack on while waiting for the meal. Some of my favs are a white bean dip, which is healthy and easy, a hot spinach dip, or a lemon and feta dip.

Happy 4th of July!
