Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. Time for barbecues, road trips, and lounging pool side. Whether you decide to take a mini “Escape” for the weekend or host a shindig at your abode, Stiletto Escape has you covered.

Getaways:

Vegas is the perfect Memorial Day getaway. With pool parties galore, you can work on your tan or dance the day away. While there are several options, a few worth looking into are Liquid Pool & Lounge at Aria, Marquee Dayclub at the Cosmopolitan, and Bagatelle Beach Club at the Tropicana. For a Star studded weekend with the likes of Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean, hit up the Palms Hotel & Casino. The Palms Pool will feature a different celebrity host on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

St. Louis is serving up free Blues music and BBQ. Soldier’s Memorial Park in downtown will host the Bluesweek Festival. There will be just under 20 different acts taking the stage. The Festival will also feature a BBQ Battle Royale. Your mouth and ears will thank you for attending.

Austin is the perfect place for a weekend spent lake side. Memorial Day Weekend is the start of boating season, and with weather in the low nineties, a relaxing day on a boat sounds like heaven. So make your way to Lake Travis or Lady Bird Lake so you can soak up some sun or get wet wake-boarding and swimming.

Barbecues:

Hosting a BBQ at home with girlfriends can be a challenge. Here are some recos to make hosting a little less burdensome and make you look like a superstar :)

Cocktails

Watermelon Breeze

With the weather warming, your guests will need some refreshing beverage choices. A Watermelon Breeze is sure to be a hit. Combine watermelon, coconut water, ice and mint, for a virgin option in a blender. To create an adult version, add Vodka. Another option is a Blackberry and Meyer Lemon Gin and Tonic. Both drinks are low calorie and made with real fruit.

Barbecue Sauce

You cannot host a BBQ without using an amazing BBQ sauce on the items you grill. If you love a sweet sauce, a Bourbon BBQ Sauce made with brown sugar, honey, and molasses, here is a great recipe. For a spicy option, try this great dry rub by award winning Chef Bradley Ogden.

Dips

Apps are a must at any house party. I love having a variety of dips available for guests to snack on while waiting for the meal. Some of my favs are a white bean dip, which is healthy and easy, a hot spinach dip, or a lemon and feta dip.

Parades:

Memorial Day is really about remembering those who lost their lives in battle. To honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, most cities hold parades. We highlight some worth checking out below.

National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC

In New York, the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade has been a yearly occurrence since 1867. Def. worth checking out, and as bonus it does not start until 11 am, which gives you time to make your way over even if you are a little hung over from Friday and Saturday nights.

On Saturday, the city of Chicago will be holding a Memorial Day Parade. The parade is easily accessible by public transit and one of the largest in the country.

The mother load of Memorial Day Parades, the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C.. There will be hundreds of thousands in attendance, making this an amazing parade to witness.

Countdown to a fun filled three day weekend starts now!
